Well, it's been a week since we started Monkey 's sleep training. Yep, apparently babies need to be trained to sleep. Who knew? I thought that was the weirdest term ever when I first heard it. But now that I have first hand experience, it's true.
For the last four months Monkey 's been sawing logs with us in the big bed - ever since the first ear infection. Now that the tubes are in and he's doing 1000% better, it was time for a coup. It's really difficult to resolve yourself to sleep on 8 inches of mattress and 1/4 of a pillow when you have a king sized bed. Especially when you are getting punched in the eye by tiny fists throughout the night or kicked in the thighs/stomach/chest/your choice of body part by jackhammer like feet. Now don't get me wrong - I ADORED sleeping with my 7 month old, cuddley, cute as a button, sweetheart of a son by my side - the closeness warms your heart. But I wanted to really SLEEP!
Thus the coup.
It was so hard that first night. Monkey cried for 2 hours before he finally fell asleep in his crib. I cried for almost as long. I felt like I was torturing my kid, letting him cry like that and not being able to comfort him. Were it not for Corey, I would have given up after 5 minutes. We had a few victories and a few setbacks throughout the week, but now I can successfully say that the last two nights Monkey has gone down with a minimal fight. Only five minutes of crying and he's out.
And I'm sleeping too.
