Too Pooped

Now that Monkey is on the mend, we decided it was time to re-initiate the sleep routine. The last few nights we've started it at around 7:30 with milk, reading a book he "picks out" from the chair pocket, and some snuggles. Then it's into the bed he goes, whether he's ready or not.

And then the crying begins.

We've been letting that go for 10-15 minutes or so before going in there and ultimately rocking him to sleep (since he tires himself out crying). Tonight we decided to push it a little further and let him tough it out a little longer. After 15 min, I went in to comfort him: he was sitting up and pitching a fit, tears, yelling etc. I laid him down but he got right back up. He got a pat on the back and I left. 15 more minutes later, it was quiet.

I peeked through the slightly ajar door and saw he was still sitting up not really moving around. I figured he was just chilling himself down so I let him sit, assuming he'd eventually lie down when he was tired. A few more minutes later, I listened by the door and heard sniffling. I peeked in through the crack, and he was still sitting up! I couldn't believe he was just sitting there all this time! His head turned a little, so I popped back out and listened. Nothing. So I figured I might as well go on in there and rock him to sleep. When I got to the crib, I realized that HE WAS SLEEPING SITTING UP!! His head movements were him "nodding" off! I almost laughed out loud.

Unfortunately just lying him back didn't work, and he woke up screaming. Then the rocking to sleep worked, and he was out like a light. This story is definitely one for the scrapbook. :)
