My Big PJ Give

My friend Amy of MomAdvice.com has started what she calls her Big Give. Her town has been hit hard by unemployment, and she is doing something big for its homeless shelter:

“I want to do something big for our local shelter. I want to give what I can to help the families who are not able to have a bright Christmas. I want them to have something to look forward to.”

She’s also challenged the rest of us to do what we can, either for her cause or for our own.

I’ve decided to work on my own Big Give.

Wednesday at work, Mindy Caplan came to talk about the Pajama Program and the Louisiana Chapter. One of our corporate networks is sponsoring a drive for them this month, and after hearing Mindy’s speech about their mission I decided that I would do more than donate to the Pajama Program at work. I decided they were going to be the recipients of MY Big Give.

So what is the Pajama Program’s mission?

“The Pajama Program provides comfort and love in the way of new pajamas and books to children in need and children waiting and hoping to be adopted. By providing pajamas and books, we help create a warm and nurturing bedtime environment for vulnerable youngsters living under difficult circumstances.”

Do you have warm childhood memories of getting into your PJs for a bedtime story from mom, dad or a grandparent? I sure do. I can’t imagine every child not being able to have wonderful memories like that. I still love climbing into bed with my PJs and a good book before I go to sleep.

What am I going to do?

I am going to donate some warm winter pajamas to the Pajama Program’s Louisiana Chapter. I ask you to donate as well. The Pajama Program is seeking:

• New and unused pajamas in all sizes – infant, toddler, children, adult (S-XXXL) Some teenagers wear adult sizes; don’t forget them!
• New books for all ages
• Financial donations
