Fireworks go POW!

Tonight we took Monkey to Lafreniere Park to the Uncle Sam Jam for his first fireworks experience.

We set up chairs on the grass and people-watched and played, listening to Americana music played by a live band. It was great.

Of course my camera battery died before the fireworks, so I couldn't attempt to snap some shots with the fireworks setting (yes, it has a fireworks setting!). But I did get these great shots as we were waiting.

All the kids were sporting these light up swords somebody was selling, and they caught Corey's eye as a potential Mardi Gras throw. He had to buy a "sample" to see if anyone else in his krewe wanted to get some for next year. Like he's ever gonna get a chance to show that thing to anyone. It's Monkey's! And makes for really cool pictures when you swing it around.

The fireworks were so pretty! Monkey was scared of them at first, and was trembling in my lap. But I think once he realized they weren't "going to get him" he settled down and enjoyed them: on the way home he told me "Fireworks go POW!" and "Fireworks have colors!"
