Things on the Work Front

So I've been at the new job for a month now. I am finally starting to get in to things. I still have so much to learn and so many people to figure out, but it's a start. It took a lot longer than I was anticipating. I have a few small projects working now, and will have A LOT of BIGGER ones coming down soon.

I went on a "field trip" yesterday and have another tomorrow for a project that has an environmental bent, so that's a good transition. Then I get to take my first trip offshore in two weeks! I am excited but very nervous at the same time. I have to go take this training next week that teaches you how to escape from a helicopter if it crashes into the ocean. Great. I cannot imagine that I am going to be on this floating mass of metal for three days with lots of high pressure hydrocarbon all around me. I guess it isn't much different than the refinery. My problem, I suppose, is the sleeping there part of it all.

My office view is very scenic. I am on the back corner-ish part of the building so I overlook the NE side of town. Fortunately the building next door is less than 20 stories so I can see over it to view Canal Street, the bend of The River, the French Quarter and out towards The East. One day I looked out, and the sun was shining, the Natchez was coming down The River, the Riverfront Streetcar was rolling by and life was good except that I was in my office experiencing all of this and not out there!
